HR Shared Services Index


Our HR Shared Services (HRSS) Index has fast established itself as an essential tool for HR functions across the world. It goes beyond existing measurement tools and allows a deeper understanding of the drivers that influence the cost and effectiveness of HR shared services delivery.

The aims of the HR Shared Services Index methodology are:
  • to help organisations identify in hard, quantifiable terms what drives delivery effectiveness and efficiency;
  • to enable organisations to benchmark their HR shared services functions against peers, highlighting best practice areas and the elements that influence cost;
  • to enable organisations to understand the cost of administering HR shared services;
  • to enable organisations to make evidence-based decisions regarding the outsourcing of HR processes, and identify areas of operation for improvement.
The methodology
The HRSS Index uses a proven process in tandem with a database of quantitative and qualitative information provided by global organisations that operate with an HR shared services function. This information allows us to explore and identify the best practice characteristics and common themes and trends that are being demonstrated by organisations using such functions.

The process allows organisations to benchmark their own HRSS operation against other similarly structured organisations. Following this process we produce a personalised executive report, highlighting recommended actions and next steps. On an annual basis, we also produce a consolidated report created from the data, highlighting our current thinking on HR shared services alongside any key trends that we are seeing in the market place.
